  • We were thrilled to receive our first green flag, our latest science plaque and a health promoting schools flag recently

  • World Book Day

  • We all had great fun on World Book Day on 3rd March when we dressed up as characters from our favourite books.
  • INTO Visit

  • Emma Dineen, President of the Irish National Teachers’ Organisation, visited our school on 25th February. It was lovely to meet her and to see her impressive gold chain.
  • Friendship Week 

  • We celebrated friendship during the week of 8th Feb. Watch our song here.
  • Green Schools Flag

  • We had a lovely visit from Teddy Brown of Cork County Council on 5th Feb. We are well on the road to our first Green Flag!
  • Enrolment for New Pupils

  • We were delighted to meet all of our new Junior Infants for 2016/17 on 21st Jan. See you all in September!
  • Bingo Fundraiser

  • Our Parents’ Association ran a hugely successful event on Sun 22nd Nov. We are so lucky to have such excellent support from the wonderful parents in our school. Thank you!
  • Science Week

  • We had a wonderful week engaging with science experiments and learning amazing things. The highlight was our Science Fair on Friday 13th November where every single child in the school presented an experiment. See photos in our gallery.
  • Defence Forces Visit

  • The Irish Defence Forces visited our school on Tuesday 3rd November to present us with our National Flag and Proclamation as part of the 1916 Commemorations. We sang Amhrán na bhFiann, our National Anthem, in both Irish and English. Present were Lt. Elizabeth Barrett, CPO Ruairí de Barra and Trooper Rob Daly. It was a beautiful occasion and an honour to receive such esteemed guests in our school. See photos in our gallery & watch here
  • Maths Week

  • We thoroughly enjoyed Maths Week with lots of fun Maths activities – see photos in our gallery
  • Our Estimation Station in the entrance hallway was a big hit, with plenty busy work going on daily

  • Back to School

  • Our new school year began  on Friday 28th August. Welcome back to all pupils and a special welcome to our new students. Here’s to an exciting and action-packed school year ahead!
  • Water Safety Flag Awarded

  • On Thursday 18th June we were awarded our latest school flag for water safety, following our completion of the Primary Aquatics Water Safety programme. Well done, everyone!
  • 6th Class Graduation

  • Our eleven 6th Class pupils left us in June following our end of year mass and graduation ceremony. Photos can be seen in our photo gallery and videos are now on our you tube channel
  • Sophia Ball  

  • Following her prize winning entry in a W.B. Yeats competition, Sophia has been featured in the Southern Star and West Cork Times. She received her prize at a ceremony in school on Thursday 25th June
  • Waltons Music for Schools Finalists!

  • We performed in the National Concert Hall in Dublin on Monday 11th May as one of six primary school finalists in the country. Our entry this year was called Ceol na Mara and can be viewed on our You Tube channel
  • American Ambassador is a fan of ours!

  • The U.S. Ambassador, Kevin O’Malley, was a guest of honour when we performed in the National Concert Hall. He tweeted a photo of us on stage, commenting on the “remarkable Irish talent”!
  • Mary Chapin Carpenter strikes again! 

  • Imagine our surprise as our bus pulled in to the National Concert Hall to see a large poster advertising Mary Chapin Carpenter’s upcoming gig in July. We have a strong association with Mary since our Christmas CD and were thrilled to pose for a photo with her poster.
  • Sophia Ball

  • Congratulations to Sophia who was won a prize in a W.B. Yeats competition. Sophia’s artistic response to Yeats’ “The Stolen Child” poem will be featured in a book which will be distributed nationally in June
  • Caoimhe Casey

  • Well done to Caoimhe on her recent success at the Eason’s Spelling Bee in the Rochestown Park Hotel in Cork. She did herself and her school proud
  • Liam Coombes

  • Congratulations to our past pupil who has been selected to play U18 club rugby for Ireland against England and France.  What an honour! Well done, Liam – we are so proud of you!
  • St. Fachtna’s Awards

  • Well done to our past pupils who recently achieved awards: Aaron O’Sullivan (football), Stephen Finn (business), Ryan Herlihy (mini company) and Cormac O’Driscoll (music) – a true reflection of the wide range of talents fostered in our school
  • Bingo

  • Our Parents’ Association hosted a fundraising Bingo event on Sunday 8th March in our school hall. It was a huge success and a wonderful community event. Thank you very much to all who organised and supported

  • RTE Nationwide

  • Our Christmas CD for Cancer Connect was featured on RTE Nationwide. Watch us here.
  • Singer Mary Chapin Carpenter calls Lisheen song an ‘early Christmas gift’

  • We were featured on RTE Nationwide in December 2014. A viewer in Kildare saw the programme and noticed the children singing “Come Darkness, Come Light” by Mary Chapin Carpenter. The viewer then forwarded the information to Mary Chapin Carpenter who then praised the children’s performance on her Twitter and Facebook pages. Read about it here.
 
  • Credit Union Teddy Bear – Congratulations to Chloe O’Mahony who won the Credit Union competition to name their Teddy Bear – she named him BUCS (“Skibbereen C.U. Bear” backwards) – very clever, well done, Chloe!
 
  • We celebrated Shrove Tuesday early before our mid term break on Friday 13th March when parents visited and made pancakes for everyone – thank you!
 
  • Well done to our Lisheen Lassies (Caoimhe, Órla and Róisín) who made it to West Cork Final level of Scór na bPáistí on Sunday 15th February – they delivered a faultless performance of “The West’s Awake” and “Trasna na dTonnta” and we are all extremely proud of them
 
  • We hosted our enrolment day on Friday 6th February when our new Junior Infants (2015/16) visited to see their new environment – all declared they’ll be back in September to get going!
 
  • Catholic Schools Week – during the week of 26th January we had daily assembly to celebrate our ethos as a Catholic school. We also had a school mass with a theme of “Grandparents” where we were lucky to have many grandparents join us
 
  • Friendship Week – we celebrated friendship and enjoyed daily activities promoting friendship during the week of the 19th January
 
  • Christmas CD – we released a CD of Christmas Carols with 100% of profits going to Cancer Connect. We launched our CD in the West Cork Hotel on Monday 1st December – see photos in our gallery under “Little Voices Launch Night”
 
  • RTE Nationwide visited our school on Wednesday 3rd December and spent the day interviewing children and staff about our Christmas CD and recording a concert with all 70 pupils performing.
